Helping Hand started the year by introducing two initiatives in an effort to make our people more fit for hope.
Helping Hand’s theme in 2018 was “With my heart”. In 2019 it was “In strength” and this year it is “Towards Hope”.
Every project Helping Hand embarks on, is undertaken with all our heart and in strength to lead to hope,” says Hannes Noëth, Solidarity Helping Hand’s executive director.
“It is very important for Helping Hand to also address spiritual and cultural poverty and not just physical poverty – for this reason the initiatives Helpende Woord (Helping Word) and Hoopfiksgids (a fitness guide for hope) have been launched.”
Helpende Woord is a series of spiritual messages that are available on social media platforms for anyone to watch. There is no cost involved. Please use the link https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4a6OxJVCv1iYCtt6TjpGMQ
“In a hectic life, where often we only have limited knowledge at our disposal, Helpende Woord offers weekly spiritual inspiration to create hope. Each episode is between three and five minutes in duration and in it, simple Biblical truths are visually presented to the social media user. In this way, the good news of hope is accessible at any time and place to anyone who has a cell phone, iPad or computer,” Noëth says.
The Helpende Woord meditations are produced by Woorde uit sy Woning. Rev. Gustav Opperman is the presenter and the editing is done by Ina Opperman.
“It is our calling to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ on our YouTube channel (Woorde uit sy Woning) through Script-based sermons, Bible studies and Catechism exegesis in South Africa and throughout the world where believers have a need to hear the Word,” said Rev. Opperman.
The fitness guide for hope (Hoopfiksgids) is compiled by well-known psychologist and life coach, Dr Eugene Kemp, and it offers 11 guidelines on how to become fit for hope and to remain so.
“Hope is not determined by your circumstances,” explains Dr Kemp. “Hope is not just a feeling or a wish, like when you go for a job interview or hope to find a convenient parking near the shopping mall’s entrance. Hope has a spiritual perspective! Hope is a cornerstone of faith and love. True hope is embedded in true faith and love. True hope justifies its meaningful existence in a relationship with the living God.”
